I am faculty member at the University of Texas School of Public Health. My postdoctoral research focuses on the association between cigarette use, mental health and substance abuse. I received my PhD in epidemiology from the University of Miami. During my training at Miami, I received an individual pre-doctoral grant (NRSA F31) from the National Institute of Mental Health to receive training in the biobehavioral and public health sciences.
I am interested in health disparities in substance use and mental health, especially in Latinos. I have studied how persons with substance abuse and mental health problems smoke more and I have investigated race/ethnic disparities in these findings.
