Information about the 2009 Conference
2010 TRAVEL AWARDS
Poster Session
As in previous years, a limited number of travel awards will be available for graduate students and early career scientists presenting posters. Many NHSN national and international research scientists and graduate students submitted abstracts for consideration. The Poster Session Committee will select six abstracts from those submitted for the poster session for special recognition as oral presentations the following day.
New Investigators Panel
Priority for presentations will be given to submissions by early career scientists, including graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, assistant professors, and researchers who have recently begun to work independently. New Investigator Panelists will have their travel expenses covered by the NHSN.
Guidelines for Travel Award Applicants
The conference travel award is designed to provide support for researchers early in their careers to attend the 2010 NHSN Conference. The travel award will be granted as a "lump sum" to cover costs associated with travel, lodging, meals, and registration. The awards are based on availability of funds. Processing of reimbursement for travel awards will take place after the conclusion of the 2010 conference, and a check will be mailed from the NHSN National Office. To receive the final reimbursement, awardees have to demonstrate that they attended all of the conference sessions. Therefore, successful applicants will be responsible for paying any costs associated with the conference in advance. More information on the travel awards will be posted as soon as it is available.
Travel award recipients will be selected by the NHSN Steering Committee based on need, funds and abstract submission. In addition, please email a letter from your mentor justifying the award to Sheila Kaupert, NHSN National Office Manager at skaupert@med.miami.edu . (Please put “Travel Award – Mentor Letter” in subject line). The letter from the mentor should include why the student should get the award, how participation in the NHSN conference will help in the training of the student, the willingness of the student's mentor/department to help support travel for the conference, and the contribution of the student/trainee to the work being presented at the meeting.
