2009 NHSN Conference

The 2009 NHSN International Conference entitled "Advances in etiologic and intervention models in Hispanic addiction research" was held from Thursday, October 29th - Saturday, October 31st in Miami.

The conference brought together experts and leading scientists covering multidiscplinary perspectives from basic to applied research, focusing on current advances on tobacco, alcohol and drug addiction research and their relevance for Hispanics.

Conference goals continued to move Hispanic drug abuse science towards interdisciplinary research and to provide mentoring and training activities to promote career development at multiple stages of the scientific trajectory, from graduate student to senior scientist.

Upon completion of the 2009 conference, participants were conversant with the following:

    • The epidemiology and prevention of cigarette, alcohol, and drug use/abuse in adolescence

    • Interventions for the treatment of tobacco and substance abuse disorders.
