Research Scientists - New members need to meet the criteria
Membership Categories & Criteria
Step 1: Nomination for membership by a member of the network including a letter of support from a Network member providing full contact information and organizational (academic) affiliation for the nominee.
Step 2: The Membership committee will then extend an invitation to apply for membership, clearly stating the documentation needed to be reviewed.
Step 3: Membership packets are created for each nominee. The membership committee on a quarterly basis reviews these membership packets.
Step 4: Once membership is approved, an acceptance letter will be forwarded to the individual.
How to Apply:Interested applicants will submit a complete application package. The application packet will consist of:
- A biographical sketch
- Completed application form
- Brief statement describing their interest in Network membership and the extent of their experience in conducting research with Hispanics
Graduate Students - New members need to meet the criteria
Membership Categories & Criteria
Step 1: A Network member will nominate and support the qualifications of the student and provide full contact information and program affiliation to the Membership committee to nominate a student for membership.
Step 2: The Membership committee will then extend an invitation to apply for membership, clearly stating the documentation needed to be reviewed.
Step 3: Membership packets are created for each nominee. The membership committee on a quarterly basis reviews these membership packets.
Step 4: Once membership is approved, an acceptance letter will be forwarded to the individual.
How to Apply:Interested applicants will submit a complete application package consisting of:
- A biographical sketch
- Completed application form
- Brief statement describing their interest in Network membership and the extent of their experience in conducting research with Hispanics
- Letter of support from their mentor describing the research interests and capabilities of the student nominee
International Members - New members need to meet the criteria
Membership Categories & Criteria
Step 1: Nomination for membership in this category will come from the Chair of the International Committee. He (she) will include a letter of support stating that the International committee has discussed and approved nomination for membership of the individual. The letter of nomination should provide contact information and organizational (academic) affiliation for the nominee.
Step 2: The Membership committee will then extend an invitation to apply for membership, clearly stating the documentation needed to be reviewed.
Step 3: Membership packets are created for each nominee. The membership committee on a quarterly basis reviews these membership packets.

Organizational Partners - New members need to meet the criteria
Membership Categories & Criteria
Organizations interested in membership will submit an application describing the nature of the organization's mission and scope of work, and their relationship to Hispanic drug abuse science. Organizations that do not fulfill all criteria to become organizational members will be granted Affiliate status.
Specific examples include:
- Organizations that do not have an active research program.
- Organizations that have an active research program but whose focus is only tangentially related to NHSN's goals and focus.
- Organizations that do not have an active research program but that are involved in health care delivery or outreach efforts that are related to drug abuse in the Latino population.
