About Me

Grecia is a doctoral student in Social Work at the University of Southern California. She received her Master of Science in Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin where she was involved in a pilot study on Latina/o immigrant teens and suicidal ideation. She was also a UCLA McNair Scholar and conducted research around Latino youth from urban neighborhoods specifically looking at the mental health effects of peer victimization. Aside from research Grecia has experience providing individual and group counseling sessions to adolescents from areas that have been affected by intergenerational poverty, substance use, gang involvement, and mass incarceration. She also has experience providing intensive case management to divert vulnerable and high-risk youth from entering the juvenile justice system.

Research Statement

Grecia’s main research interest focuses on understanding the unique and complex incarceration experiences of Mexican-American adolescent males as they relate to behavioral health outcomes, with an emphasis on mental health. Her particular focus is on Mexican-American adolescent males from marginalized and disadvantaged communities.
